A high-demand religion is a religious system that places strong expectations on a person’s behavior, thoughts, relationships, identity, and daily life. These systems often emphasize obedience, conformity, sacrifice, worthiness, and loyalty to authority. Members may experience pressure to prioritize the group’s beliefs and expectations over their own needs, instincts, or individuality.
Not everyone experiences a high-demand religion in the same way. However, for many people, growing up in these environments can lead to anxiety, shame, perfectionism, difficulty trusting themselves, and fear around questioning or leaving.
Hi, I’m Chelsey! I’m a licensed therapist and mom who knows firsthand how hard it can be to balance the demands of life, faith transitions, religious trauma, and motherhood. That’s why I’ve dedicated my practice to helping women like you—moms in various stages and transitions of motherhood—feel supported, empowered, and hopeful again.
