Religious Trauma Therapy Intensives in Mesa, Arizona

Intellectually, you know you’re enough. But what if it actually felt true in your body?

You’ve spent years unpacking the beliefs you grew up with.

Part of you knows you don’t have to be perfect to deserve love. That your needs matter. That your worth isn’t determined by how obedient, selfless, or faithful you are.

But sometimes, those old beliefs still feel true deep down.

ㄨ I’m not good enough.

ㄨI’m selfish if I put myself first.

ㄨI have to keep everyone happy to be loved.

You’ve talked about them. Challenged them. Tried to replace them.

But the shame, guilt, and anxiety still show up.

You've Done the Deconstruction.
But Some Beliefs Run Deep.

Growing up in a high-demand religion doesn’t just shape what you believe about God. It shapes what you believe about yourself.

Maybe you learned that being good meant being obedient. That love and belonging depended on doing everything right. That putting yourself first was selfish.

And even though you no longer believe those messages, they can still show up in your everyday life.

  • In the guilt you feel when you tell your parents no.
  • The pressure to be the perfect mom.

  • The anxiety that comes with disappointing someone.

  • The way you question yourself, even when you know what you want.

You can leave the church without leaving every belief it taught you about yourself.

Let's work on more than just understanding why.

During your religious trauma therapy intensive, I’ll guide you through common negative beliefs that can develop in high-demand religious environments.

Together, we’ll explore which ones carry the most emotional weight for you.

☼

Maybe I’m not good enough brings a heaviness to your chest.

☼

Maybe I have to be perfect makes your stomach tighten.

☼

Maybe My needs don’t matter brings up emotions you didn’t realize were still there.

☼

Maybe I can’t let it out brings up a lump in your throat

Those emotional and physical responses help us identify where to begin.

Using Brainspotting, we’ll focus on the belief or experience that’s most activated for you and give it dedicated time and attention.

We’re not trying to talk you into believing a positive affirmation; no toxic positivity here!

We’re creating space to explore what lies beneath the old belief and what a different relationship with yourself might feel like.

This sacred work opens the door to a deeper sense of self-compassion, worth, or inner knowing. An opportunity to come home to yourself.

How Brainspotting Helps heal religious trauma

Maybe you’ve already done a lot of work understanding your religious trauma.

You’ve read the books. Listened to podcasts like Mormon Stories. Talked about your childhood. Connected the dots between growing up in high-demand religion and your quirks today.

All of that can be incredibly valuable, but sometimes, understanding why you feel a certain way doesn’t change how your body responds.

That’s where Brainspotting offers a different kind of healing.

Brainspotting is a brain-body therapy that uses specific eye positions to help you process the emotional and physical responses connected to painful experiences and deeply ingrained beliefs.

Rather than just talking about your shame, fear, or feelings of inadequacy, Brainspotting creates space for your nervous system to process those responses and begin releasing their emotional intensity.

The goal? To move beyond simply knowing you’re worthy and begin experiencing that sense of safety, self-trust, and enoughness in your body.

One Day for Yourself. Without Another Weekly Commitment.

Finding time for yourself is hard enough.

Between work, kids, relationships, and everything else you're juggling, committing to weekly therapy can feel like another logistical puzzle.

And sometimes, you've barely gotten to the important stuff before your 50 minutes are up.

That's what makes a therapy intensive different.

Instead of squeezing this work into traditional appointments, we'll set aside an entire day to focus on one meaningful therapeutic goal and accelerated healing.

Why women choose Religious Trauma Therapy Intensives

More time to get into the work.

Two extended Brainspotting processing periods give us room to explore what’s coming up without the usual constraints of a weekly appointment.

A personalized experience.

We’ll identify your goals before the intensive so our time together is intentional and focused on what’s most important to you.

Less scheduling stress.

For busy moms and professionals, setting aside one dedicated day may be easier than coordinating another recurring appointment.

Support that extends beyond the day.

You’ll receive personalized integration exercises to help you continue reflecting on and applying what you’ve explored.

Let's give something you've carried for years the time and attention it deserves.

And for once, that time is entirely yours. No rush!

Meet Chelsey Liaga B.S. ED, LMSW, PMH-C Brainspotting Therapist in Queen Creek, AZ

Hey, It’s nice to meet you!

I specialize in helping women heal from religious trauma, untangle harmful religious conditioning, and rediscover who they are outside the expectations they grew up with.

As an ex-Mormon myself, I know that leaving the church doesn’t automatically mean leaving behind the guilt, shame, and pressure to be perfect.

Understanding where those beliefs came from is sometimes only part of the work.

That’s one reason I’m passionate about Brainspotting.

I love helping women explore the emotional and physical responses connected to beliefs about worthiness, perfectionism, and self-trust.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth.

I’m not here to tell you what you should believe or who you should become.

I’m here to help you reconnect with yourself, on your own terms.

The FAQs

1. Before We Meet: Getting to Know You

We’ll start with a free consultation to discuss your goals, answer questions, and make sure the intensive is an appropriate fit.

Before your appointment, you’ll complete intake paperwork so I can better understand your background and what you’d like to focus on.

We’ll have a direction before you even walk through the door!

2. Your Intensive Day: 9 AM–3 PM

We’ll spend the day together at my office in Mesa, Arizona.

Your six-hour scheduled experience includes:

  • Getting grounded: We’ll settle in, review your goals, and prepare for the work.

  • Brainspotting session one: We’ll begin exploring the emotions and physical responses connected to your chosen focus.

  • Time to pause: We’ll take breaks and enjoy a lunch break.

  • Brainspotting session two: We’ll return to focused processing, guided by what feels most important as the day unfolds.

  • Integration: We’ll reflect on the experience and discuss how to support yourself afterward.

The six-hour day includes breaks and lunch rather than six continuous hours of therapy.

We’ll adjust the pace as needed. You won’t be expected to push through overwhelm or force a particular outcome.

3. After Your Intensive & Integration

Before you leave, we’ll talk about how to care for yourself and continue integrating what you’ve explored.

You’ll receive personalized homework and exercises that may include reflection prompts, grounding practices, or ways to approach old patterns differently.

Brainspotting is an evidence-based therapeutic technique that targets trauma stored in the body. By focusing on specific eye positions, it helps you access and process emotional blocks that are often hidden in the subconscious. This deep, focused approach activates the brain’s natural healing processes, allowing for the release of trauma and emotional pain. In just two sessions, Brainspotting can lead to profound emotional shifts and long-lasting healing.

Below is an example schedule of what a one day brainspotting intensive looks like.

9:00-10:00am: Introductions, Review Paperwork, Solidify Goals

10:00-11:00am: First Brainspotting Session

11:00-11:30am: Debrief

11:30-12:30pm: Lunch

12:30-1:30pm: Second Brainspotting Session

1:30-2:00pm: Debrief

2:00-3:00pm: Conclusion, Aftercare Instructions, Integration

That’s totally fine! Brainspotting works without you having to share details. As long as you are able to notice what thoughts, memories, or sensations come up while brainspotting, you don’t have to share them out loud.

After the session, you’ll receive an aftercare plan to help you continue healing on your own. If you would like, you can schedule follow up sessions at an additional cost.

The brainspotting intensive is held at my office located on the boarder of Mesa and Queen Creek in Arizona.

Address: 8830 E Germann Rd, Suite 27, Mesa, AZ 85212

Nope! Many people find relief in a single intensive. You can always come back for more if you’d like.

That’s okay! A Brainspotting intensive may complement your existing therapy.

If appropriate, we can discuss coordinating care with your current therapist, with your permission.

A full day of focused therapeutic work offers more time to explore a particular belief or experience than a traditional 50-minute appointment.

After an intensive, my clients often experience meaningful insights or shifts. Others may find they are better able to trust themselves, set boundaries, and stand up for themselves.

Some share they are less triggered in tough situations, and are more compassionate with themselves.

There’s no guarantee of a particular result, and one intensive may be part of a longer healing process.
