What is Faith Deconstruction?

Deconstruction is the process of critically examining beliefs, teachings, values, and systems that were previously accepted as absolute truth. For many women leaving high-demand religion, deconstruction involves untangling beliefs about identity, worthiness, gender roles, obedience, sexuality, and spirituality.

Deconstruction is not simply “rebelling” or rejecting faith. It is often a deeply thoughtful process of asking:

    • What do I truly believe?
    • What was taught through fear or shame?
    • What still feels authentic to me?

Although deconstruction can feel painful and destabilizing, it can also create space for greater self-trust, autonomy, and healing.
