Spiritual bypassing refers to the use of spiritual beliefs, practices, or language to avoid experiencing or processing difficult emotions.
In simpler terms: faith becomes a way to move around pain instead of through it.
Spiritual bypassing often looks virtuous on the outside. It can sound faithful, obedient, optimistic, or strong. But internally, it can come at a high cost.
When emotions are treated as spiritual problems instead of human signals, people learn to mistrust themselves. Feelings like grief, anger, doubt, fear, or confusion become things to suppress, correct, or pray away rather than experiences that deserve care and attention.
